How Kav compares with other chatbots and helpdesk tools

What Kav is, who it is built for, and how it differs from helpdesk suites, DIY chatbot builders and WhatsApp inbox tools, with the cases where it is not the right fit.

People who search for a chatbot or a helpdesk usually end up comparing tools that were built for different jobs. This guide says what Kav is, what kind of tool each alternative category is, and where Kav is the wrong choice. It names a vendor only for facts read on that vendor's own public pages on 2 October 2026, and it quotes no competitor prices: check their pricing pages, because those change.

What is Kav?

Kav is an AI assistant for your customers, with a place for your team to take over. It answers on your website widget, on WhatsApp and on Telegram, from your own approved content, and it connects to your systems so it can check a status or book a visit. Your team edits answers, menus and rules in the Studio without waiting for a software release.

Kav started in municipal services and is sold to any business that answers the same customer questions again and again: clinics, shops, professional services, utilities and others. The details are in How Kav works.

Is Kav an alternative to Intercom, Zendesk, Tidio, ManyChat, Freshchat or Respond.io?

Sometimes, depending on the job. If you need an assistant that answers repeat questions from your own content, on the website and WhatsApp, and passes the rest to a person, Kav does that job. If you need a full ticketing suite, a very large omnichannel contact centre or voice calls today, a different tool is the better choice (see "When Kav is not the right fit" below).

The honest way to choose is by dimension, not by brand. The table below compares categories of tools; the vendor facts after it are limited to what each vendor states on its own pages.

The rows for other categories are general descriptions of how those categories usually work, not claims about any one product.

What facts can be checked about specific tools?

Read on each vendor's own page on 2 October 2026:

  • Intercom prices on a per-seat basis plus a per-outcome charge for its AI agent, and its pricing page states a 14-day free trial.
  • Zendesk prices per agent seat by plan, and its pricing page states a free trial.
  • Tidio has tiered plans measured in billable conversations, a free plan, and a stated free trial.
  • Freshchat prices per agent, and its pricing page mentions a free plan and a trial.
  • Respond.io describes itself as a customer conversation platform and lists WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, email and voice calls among its channels.
  • ManyChat: we could not read its pages on that date, so we say nothing about it. Check its own site.

Nothing here says one is better than another. These are different pricing models for different jobs.

What is the best AI chatbot for a small business on WhatsApp?

The best one is the one that answers from your own content, hands over to a person cleanly and fits your budget. Kav's Starter plan has the website widget, the knowledge base and one channel of your choice, WhatsApp or Telegram, for $39 a month. Connecting your own WhatsApp number needs your organization's WhatsApp Business account, which Meta has to approve, and a person on our side sets it up.

If you only need a shared WhatsApp inbox for your staff and no assistant, a WhatsApp-only inbox tool may be enough.

How much does Kav cost compared with Intercom or Zendesk?

Kav is priced as flat monthly plans; the two you name are priced per seat. Kav's published plans, on the pricing page:

  • Starter: $39 a month, 300 conversations a month.
  • Plus: $89 a month, appointments straight into your calendar, 1,000 conversations a month.
  • Pro: $189 a month, 2,500 conversations a month.
  • Business: $325 a month.
  • Organization: $750 a month.
  • Enterprise: on request.

You can cancel any time. The website widget and the knowledge base are in every plan, and our team does the set-up with you. For Intercom and Zendesk, check their pricing pages: a per-seat price grows with the size of your team, a flat plan grows with conversations, so the cheaper one depends on how many people you have and how many conversations arrive. The pricing page lists no free trial for Kav, so if you want to see it on your own scenario, talk to us.

Add-ons on the Kav pricing page

The pricing page also lists priced add-ons: extra channels, extra conversations, extra Agent Desk seats and integration modules. Read the pricing page for the current figures rather than relying on a copy here.

Can Kav book appointments into my calendar?

Yes, on the Plus plan and above. Plus includes appointments straight into your calendar, with up to one connected calendar or booking tool set up by our team. A booking template in the Studio sets up the services and the opening hours; see Booking template setup.

Does Kav support voice calls?

Not yet. Voice is not live today. Live today: the website widget, WhatsApp and Telegram. SMS, Messenger and Instagram are also not live yet. If you need a phone line answered today, Kav is not the right choice yet. See which channels Kav supports.

Which channels does Kav support?

The website widget, WhatsApp and Telegram, all live today. They share the same answers, rules and knowledge, and a conversation from any of them waits in the same queue for your team.

Can a human take over?

Yes. When the assistant cannot help, the conversation moves to a person in the right team's queue with everything said so far. It does not matter which channel the customer used.

Does the AI make up prices or answers?

It is built not to. The model never writes a number: amounts, dates, reference numbers and statuses come from your own system through a display template. Knowledge answers come only from content your team approved. When confidence is too low, Kav says it could not find a reliable source and offers a person instead of guessing. Details: How Kav stops the assistant making up answers.

Is Kav private and secure? Is it GDPR friendly?

Kav is built with privacy controls. Every field has a sensitivity class that decides what is kept and what a person can see, every staff view of personal data is recorded with who looked and why, and each organization's data is separated from the others at the database level. When something is unclear, the system blocks rather than allows. For your own legal obligations, ask your adviser, and ask us for the details of how data is handled.

Is Kav accessible?

Accessibility is a design target: WCAG 2.2 AA and Israeli Standard 5568. An automated accessibility check runs as part of the build. See Is the Kav widget accessible?.

Does Kav work in Hebrew, Arabic, Russian and English?

Yes. The assistant on Kav's own site answers in all four, and the platform also supports Amharic. Each organization switches on the languages it wants, and the layout switches between right-to-left and left-to-right with the language.

How long does set-up take?

It depends on your system, so we publish no single number. Our team sets Kav up with you; there is no self-service signup. What decides the time is whether your system has an interface Kav connects to, how fast access is issued, your team's approval of content and, for WhatsApp, Meta's approval. See how long it takes to connect an existing system.

Is there a free trial?

The pricing page does not list one. Kav's plans are monthly and cancel any time. To see it on your own scenario, talk to us.

What is the difference between an AI chatbot and a helpdesk?

A chatbot answers; a helpdesk tracks and resolves tickets. A chatbot's job is to answer common questions quickly at any hour. A helpdesk manages a team's queue of cases, with assignment, history and reporting. Many businesses need both, and the useful question is how well the bot hands over to a person. Kav sits mainly on the chatbot side with a desk for taking over, not a replacement for a full ticketing suite.

When Kav is not the right fit

  • You need voice calls today. Voice is not live.
  • You need deep ticketing or ITSM. Kav's desk takes over conversations; it is not a full case-management or IT service suite.
  • You run a very large omnichannel contact centre with many channels that are not live on Kav today.
  • You want to sign up and start alone. Kav is set up with you by our team.
